The home console

March 24th, 2008

Set up a media center box over the weekend. I’m pretty excited about it. It’s the first time I have been able to re purpose an old machine without having to stretch to find uses for it. I’m using Maximus Arcade as the front end, which is working out nicely so far. My only issue is a lot of the mame games are not getting launched right. I’m guessing this is something with mame though since it is unpacking zips and such. I’ll have to do a little more tinkering.

The Xbox 360 controllers work great for most of the console emulators. We were able to play Super Mario Bros. and Castlevania without any trouble. I’m pretty surprised at how well the controller translates to any system before the N-64. The mapping for controls on the N-64 seems a little weird just because of the layout. Half of those games are not emulated so well anyhow, so whatever.
